The Company is developing sales of gas engine fuels, specifically liquefied natural gas (LNG) and compressed natural gas (CPG). Rising demand for cheaper and more environmentally friendly transport is boosting the popularity of these fuel types.
In 2012 the Company launched a programme to promote gas engine fuels and opened the first multi-fuel filling station under the Gazpromneft brand; in 2013 the number of filling stations selling gas motor fuels rose from 121 to 176. 93,000 tonnes of LNG and 9,000 tonnes of CPG were sold in 2013.
Gazpromneft-Alternative Fuel is the subsidiary that handles sales of alternative types of fuel. The company was established in July 2013 after a similar firm was launched at Gazprom- Gazprom Gas Motor Fue l- and after the Russian government had signed a decree on shifting fuel used by at least 50% of all private cars and public road transport in large cities to natural gas.
Gazpromneft-Alternative Fuel is implementing a project to refurbish and develop the filling station network with a view to increasing the use of CPG as a motor fuel. This initiative will be working with the government, developing technologies, running marketing campaigns and coordinating sales and activities with Gazprom Group on issues relating to the production and retailing of CPG.
