The final West Group game of the 8th International Gazprom Neft Cup KHL Kids Ice Hockey Tournament was played today. The deciding match brought together the representatives of two Moscow schools, Dynamo and CSKA.
The “Army” hockey school won the upper hand in this thrilling clash. With its fateful pairing of teams, dizzy speed, hail of goals and fine display of combination ice hockey, the game was more than worthy of the culmination of the Belarusian segment of the Tournament.
Two lightening CSKA goals dampened the fire of their opponents, but Dynamo had no intention of giving up. The blue-and-whites responded with three scintillating attacks to take the score to 3:2, the third goal by Nikita Chibrikov going in a few seconds before the first interval.
The second period was the key one to the West Group final, as CSKA devastated the opposite goal with four unreciprocated scores, prompting Dynamo coach Vladimir Ring to switch keepers. His team did not cede any more points, but this still could not save them as the “Army” team bagged a 6:3 win.
So the Gazprom Neft Cup bids farewell to the Republic of Belarus, with CSKA emerging as best team of the West Group. On Thursday the Muscovites fly to Omsk to play in the Super Final on April 25 in which they will lock horns with Ak-Bars for the Gazprom Neft Cup Trophy.
