Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden familiarized himself with archeological findings on the territory of "Okhta Center" planned construction site.28.10.2008The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden Karl Bildt visited today the planned construction site of "Okhta Center".
Company representatives implementing project "Okhta" told to the guests about preparations to the construction, which included large-scale archeological researches on the territory of ancient fortress Nienschanz.
Project initiators attach great significance to the archeological researches. It is planned to place first Archeological museum in Saint-Petersburg on the territory of "Okhta Center". It will exhibit all findings, discovered by archeological expeditions at Malaya Okhta and other historical regions of Saint-Petersburg and its precincts. These researches are financed by "Social and business center "Okhta". There were no such large-scale researches in Saint-Petersburg. Detailed research of first settlements history became possible just with the beginning of preparation to the construction of social and business district.
Archeological researches at the construction site of "Okhta Center" performed by Saint-Petersburg expedition under the supervision of the Director of North-Eastern institute "Heritage" Petr Sorokin.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden Karl Bildt announced that he highly appreciate meaning of the researches, because the history of Russia and Sweden interlace exactly on Okhta, on the territory of fortress Nienschanz. He also expressed his hope, that in future, after creation of the Archeological museum within the "Okhta center" project will become possible to learn more about history of settlements of the time before Peter I on the territory of Petersburg.
