“The Denis Donchenko’s Paranormal Archaeology” Exhibition Unveiled with Support from the “Okhta” Cultural Heritage Foundation and JSC Gazprom Neft15.08.2007Today an exhibition of modern plastic arts “The Denis Donchenko’s Paranormal Archaeology” is unveiled at the Nienshants Museum. The display was organized with the support from the “Okhta” Cultural Heritage Foundation and JSC Gazprom Neft.
The exhibition comprising works of St.Petersburg artist and sculptor Denis Donchenko will be open till September 15. Having lost his sight a few years ago Denis could no longer work as a painter and had to switch to galvanoplastic technique.
Among the “archaeological artifacts” born by the artist’s creative mind there are the Fly of Peter the Great, Venus Industrial, Electrofish, Fishmobile, the Griffon of Przhevalskiy, etc. Graphic works of Elizaveta Donchenko supplement the display.
”This exhibition is totally unconventional as far as its style and manner are concerned”, says the museum director Maria Kasym. “The exhibits on display stagger one’s imagination with their finish. We decided to give the exhibition the name of “Denis Donchenko’s Paranormal Archaeology” since each item is given its “historical commentary” by the author”.
The Nienshants Museum is situated in the territory of ancient fortresses of Nienshants and Landscrona. Its exhibits will ultimately form the basis of the future historical museum of the St.Petersburg’s first settlements that is expected to be set up in the territory of the new community and business complex Okhta Centre. Artifacts discovered during archaeological excavations that were performed in the course of the construction site preparatory works have already been presented to Petersburgers.
