Final Stage of Demolition Works on Factory Buildings of the Now Defunct Petrozavod Commenced in Preparation for Construction of Community and Business Complex Okhta Centre07.09.2007The final stage of demolition works on the out-of-service factory buildings of the now defunct Petrozavod closed down in 2001 was launched. A series of blocks (under A and B characters) overlooking the Sverdlovskaya Embankment will be successively demolished. The said buildings were in a dangerous state.
Modern powerful machinery owned by the Building Demolition Association allows to conduct the final stage in the shortest possible time: all works for demolition of the factory buildings and demolition waste disposal are planned to be completed by October 15.
One may recall that community and business complex Okhta Centre – the first of the kind in the city – will be built in the Krasnogvardeiskiy District of St.Petersburg. The high-rise building - a unique structure that will become the architectural highlight of St.Petersburg – will be the principal element of the complex. The building’s floor area will total some 100,000 sq.m.
The architects’ concept is based on the principle of historical continuity: there was a Swedish fortress of Nienshants at the influx of the river Okhta into Neva that solders led by Peter the Great took by storm in 1703. It was at that time when the fortress was ruined. The base of the high-rise accomplished in the form of a five-point star replicates contours of the fortress.
The community and business complex construction project will be realized jointly by the city administration and JSC Gazprom Neft. 51 percent of the Okhta Centre project investment will be financed by Gazprom Neft and 49 percent – by Administration of St.Petersburg.
According to the design concept the offices of Gazprom and its subsidiaries will occupy just 16 percent of the total space of the community and business complex. 35 percent of the floor space will be allocated for public purposes and the rest 49 percent for business centers.
