Gazprom Neft builds innovative research centre in the Tomsk Oblast
Gazprom Neft has used the occasion of this year’s Tyumen Oil and Gas Forum to conclude an agreement on building a reservoir systems research centre with the Government of the Tomsk Oblast — the signatories to the document being Alexander Dyukov, Chairman of the Gazprom Neft Management Board, and Alexander Moor, the Governor of the Tyumen Oblast.
The company plans to build an innovative laboratory complex in Tyumen which will become a specialist centre for managing Gazprom Neft’s geological research, addressing such tasks as integrating data on geological features throughout the company’s upstream assets, developing new methodologies and reservoir evaluation techniques, and developing digital core modelling technologies.
The new innovation centre — which is unparalleled in Russia — will bring together laboratories, a high-tech core storage facility, and innovative office space, and will become a dedicated forum for training and educating company specialists, as well as a location for industry conferences. A dedicated building will be constructed for the centre in Tyumen, with capacity to hold up to 200 kilometres of core samples. The storage sector will be fully automated and designed to utilise Russian-produced robotized systems.
Alexander Moor, Acting Governor of the Tyumen Oblast, stressed: “Working together with Gazprom Neft is of major importance to the Tyumen Oblast. We value this developing collaboration very highly, and are keen to promote it. Tyumen has a concentration of scientific centres, owned by all of the major oil and gas companies. The region is, today, striving to become one of the regions in which one of 15 world-class scientific and educational centres throughout Russia will be created. This will involve integration and collaboration between the Tyumen Oblast, the Khanty-Mansi and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrugs, higher educational establishments and, of course, industrial companies. The traditional vector for the region’s scientific and technological development remains improving efficiency in the production and refining of raw hydrocarbons. In addition to which, the Tyumen Oblast has considerable potential in the integrated digitalization of oil and gas production processes. All of the major companies are making active advances in this area, including Gazprom Neft. Consolidating the strengths and resources of all parties will mean the challenges facing the country’s oil and gas industry can be more effectively addressed.”
The design of the building is expected to involve the use of cutting-edge technological solutions including bio-regulated lighting to maximise usage of natural light, reduce levels of sun radiation through the use of special constructions and façade glass, and automatically adjust lighting colour and intensity in line with ambient light in order to improve energy savings. The building is expected to be brought into use in 2022.
Alexander Dyukov, Chairman of the Gazprom Neft Management Board commented: “This new research centre will further enhance Gazprom Neft’s existing scientific cluster in the Tyumen Oblast, combining our developments in digital technologies and innovative reservoir research techniques. Integrated workspaces for geological engineers will be created here, from which they will be able to receive full, factual information on well operations online, direct from the laboratory centre, as well as collaborating with outside partners. We expect the implementation of this project to play a significant role in investigating the geological structure of fields throughout the company’s portfolio.”
