Gazprom Neft has announced the results of the tender to select a contractor to test and complete eleven wells at the oil field in Badra, Iraq. The contract, worth around US$95 million, was awarded to U.S. oil field service group <a href="http://www.halliburton.com/" target="_blank" >Halliburton</a> <img src="/upload/medialibrary/266/266904c685507e6d74486952d00c65d2.jpg" border="0" alt="arrow.jpg" width="10px" height="10px" />. Testing of the first well is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2012. Drilling at Badra <a href="/press-center/news/4740/" >began</a> in November 2011. A three-year contract for drilling eleven wells, including one exploratory and two appraisal wells, was signed in summer 2011 with Schlumberger. The work is being carried out using three drilling rigs. The work carried out by Halliburton will facilitate better understanding of the geological structure of the field. Production will commence once the Final Field Development Plan is completed in 2013, in line with the terms agreed with the Iraqi government. Current plans provide for beginning the preparation, testing and completion of six wells prior to the start of the field development. All of these wells will be equipped with top-notch equipment which will enable dual production from multiple reservoirs (simultaneous production from two or more reservoirs in one well) and ensure real-time control over well performance. REFERENCE: The Badra oil field is located in the Wasit Province in eastern Iraq. According to preliminary estimates, the geological reserves of the Badra field total 3 billion barrels of oil. A contract to develop the field was signed with the government of Iraq in January 2010 following the December 2009 tender, which was won by a consortium made up of Gazprom Neft, Kogas (Korea), Petronas (Malaysia) and TPAO (Turkey). Gazprom Neft's share in the project is 30%, that of Kogas is 22.5%, Petronas' is 15% and TPAO's is 7.5%. The share of the Iraqi government, represented by the Iraqi Oil Exploration Company (OEC), is 25%. Gazprom Neft is the operator of the project. The development project for the Badra field is proposed to last 20 years, with the possibility to extend it by 5 years. The estimated volume of investment over that time is around US$2 billion. According to the terms of the contract, investors will be reimbursed all costs incurred and paid an additional fee of US$5.50 per barrel of oil equivalent produced. Production is expected to begin on the oil field in 2013, and is expected to reach 170 thousand barrels per day (approx. 8.5 million tons per year) by 2017 and to maintain that level for seven years. In total, 17 production wells and 5 injection wells are planned to be drilled on the field.

The company thus fulfilled the terms of the agreement with the Government of the Republic of Serbia two months earlier than the date specified in the contract. Since 2009, Gazprom Neft’s total investment in a program to modernize and reconstruct the NIS refinery and improve the environmental safety of the Serbian company’s production processes has reached the level of 500 million euros, fixed in the sale contract. Modernization of production processes is a fundamental to NIS achieving the strategically-important top position in the Balkan market for oil products. An essential element of the program is the modernization and construction of a facility for light hydrocracking and hydrotreatment at the Panchevo oil refinery. The new facility will improve the quality of the output. In particular, the refining depth will increase up to 84%, and the yield of light products with improved quality — up to 76%. Furthermore, the environmental safety will be improved. The volume of polluting emissions discharged into the atmosphere, including particulates, will be cut to the level required by the standards of the European Union. As a result of the modernization project, the processing capacity of the refinery will reach a maximum of 4.8 million tons per year, making it possible to fully satisfy the needs of Serbia’s internal market and export oil products to the Baltic states. Bringing the hydrocracking and hydrorefining facility into operation will provide NIS with a complete transition to the production of gasoline and Euro-diesel with sulfur content of up to 10 ppm, which complies with EU environmental standards. Once the facility is in operation, the rated gasoline production capacity at the Panchevo refinery will be roughly 640,000 tons per year. Moreover, Euro-diesel output will increase by 6.5 times, up to 1.5 million tons per year. In addition to the hydrocracking and hydrotreatment facility (MHC/DHT), the modernization program for the NIS refinery complex includes the construction of a hydrogen unit, sulfuric-acid recovery unit, and a tank farm for liquid gas in an industrial zone in Panchevo, as well as the renovation and construction of the plant’s infrastructure, reconstruction of the fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) system, and a freight dock. Construction of the hydrocracking and hydroretreatment facility at the Panchevo refinery will be completed in the third quarter. The Kazan Ak Bars became the winners of the largest Russia’s children’s hockey competition. Athletes for Neftekhimik, a team from Nizhnekamsk, won silver, and young hockey players from the capital’s CSKA club went home with bronze medals. The Gazprom Neft Cup is the company’s main project for promoting youth sports. Over the last six years, the international Gazprom Neft Cup has grown into one of the Russia’s most impressive youth tournaments. The competition is organized like professional international hockey tournaments for adults. More than 6,000 people attended this year’s final match. “Together with the Continental Hockey League, we are creating the best youth hockey tournament in Europe,” said <a href="/company/management/management.php#dyukov">Aleksandr Dyukov</a>, chairman of Gazprom Neft’s management board. Thus, as of this date, all high-octane gasolines produced by the Moscow Refinery meet this ecological standard, and the switch to Class 4 was made almost three years before the deadline set by the Technical Regulations. Production of Class 4 diesel fuels has been ongoing at the Moscow Refinery since January 1 2011. The upgrade in class was made possible through modernising technology and tightening operational requirements at the combined catalytic cracking unit. Further improvements to the produced fuels' characteristics will be achieved during the Moscow Refinery's modernisation program, in particular, as a result of the ongoing construction of the light gasoline fractions isomerisation and catalyst cracked gasoline hydroforming unit. In addition, by the end of 2012 reconstruction of unit LP-24-2000, used for the hydrotreatment of diesel fuel, will have been completed. Once these facilities are put into operation, Gazprom Neft Moscow Oil Refinery will be able to switch to the production of Ecological Class 5 motor fuels. On April 19 Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin and the Chairman of Gazprom Neft Management Board Alexander Dyukov paid a working visit to the Moscow Oil Refinery and got acquainted with the progress of construction of new facilities, including an isomerisation unit (planned for completion by Q1 2013) and closed mechanical wastewater treatment facilities (to be completed later this year). <a href="/company/management/management.php#dyukov" >Alexander Dyukov</a>, the Chairman of Gazprom Neft Management Board, made the following comment: “The Moscow Oil Refinery is efficiently implementing the first stage of its large-scale modernisation program, aimed to improve the quality of its petroleum products. Achieving this goal, along with others, such as increasing refining depth and light petroleum product output and improving production and environmental efficiency, requires huge investments. Gazprom Neft will be spending 130 billion roubles on renovating the Moscow Oil Refinery by 2020, double the planned amount of investment.” REFERENCE: Gazprom Neft Moscow Oil Refinery is a subsidiary of Gazprom Neft. Its capacity is 12.15 million tons per year. The company produces gasoline, diesel, marine and aviation fuels, fuel oil, high-octane additives for motor fuel, bitumens and gases for various purposes. The refinery occupies leading positions in the production of petrol and diesel fuels, meeting about 40% of the total demand for petroleum products in the Moscow Region. In 2011 the refining output of the Moscow Oil Refinery amounted to 10.8 million tons, a 6% increase over 2010. The yield of light petroleum products reached 6.1 million tons, 5% more than in 2010, including 2.2 million tons of high-octane petrol, which represents a 9.6% increase over 2010. The refinery also produced 2.6 million tons of diesel fuel and 649 thousand tons of jet fuel. The refining depth in 2011 reached 72.28%. In Q1 2012 the Moscow Oil Refinery has increased the volume of oil refining to 2.6 million tons, 3% higher than the same period in 2011. According to the medium-term investment program approved by Gazprom Neft, over 20 billion roubles will be invested in modernising the Moscow Oil Refinery in 2012. The program aims to upgrade the production facilities at the refinery in order to improve the quality of petroleum products, increase the depth of refining, and improve efficiency, both in terms of production and easing the impact on the environment. In 2012, as part of the Moscow Oil Refinery modernisation program, construction of closed mechanical wastewater treatment facilities will be completed. This project will significantly reduce polluting emissions into the atmosphere as well as improve the quality of cleaning of industrial effluents. The Moscow Oil Refinery is also planning to finish the reconstruction of its bitumen unit and water treatment installation with a reservoir for collecting desalinated water.
