Gazprom Neft Moscow Refinery begins installation of equipment for Euro+ unit

Installation of major equipment for a modern Euro+ combined oil refining unit (Euro+ CORU) at the Gazprom Neft Moscow Refinery has now begun. Two hydro-treatment reactors and an iso-dewaxing unit, produced at the Izhorskiye Zavody plant, St Petersburg, will form part of a hydro-treatment facility for Euro+ diesel fuels. The total weight of the installed equipment is more than 500 tonnes. Lifting of this apparatus was achieved using special cranes with a loading capacity of 750 and 350 tonnes, respectively. Installation of each piece of equipment took approximately two hours, excluding preparatory operations.

The cutting-edge equipment and technology used for the Euro+ project at the Moscow Refinery will allow the plant to reduce its environmental impact by 11.1 percent on every tonne of oil refined

Construction of the Euro+ facility is a key project in the second phase of the thoroughgoing modernisation of the Moscow Refinery currently being undertaken by Gazprom Neft. Commissioning of the Euro+ facility is expected to increase the yield of light petroleum products, facilitate the move towards a four-year run life, improve energy efficiency, and significantly reduce environmental impacts.

The most cutting-edge technologies will be applied in the Euro+ unit, for which there are very few similar examples worldwide. The unit is replacing five older-generation facilities. The compactness of these, together with optimum heat carrier flow, will improve energy efficiency in production processes. The cutting-edge equipment and technology used for the Euro+ project at the Moscow Refinery will allow the plant to reduce its environmental impact by 11.1 percent on every tonne of oil refined. Once commissioned, lead-times for planned refurbishment will increase from two years to four, improving reliability in the supply of high-quality environmentally-friendly Euro-5 fuels to the country’s capital city metropolitan area.
