Supported by Gazprom Neft, the XVI “Spirit of Fire” cinematography festival for first-time film makers is taking place in Khanty-Mansiysk, running from 1 to 7 March 2018. The company supports this cinematography forum as part of its “Home Towns” corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.
The main theme of the 2018 festival is films about love, presented in the capital of Khanty-Mansiysk-Yugra by directors from Russia, France, Portugal, India, Poland, Brazil and other countries. In addition to film screenings and the debut film competition the cinematography forum is accompanied by an extensive cultural programme. As part of the traditional celebrations for Family Day, a documentary performance, “Elizarovo_doc”, will be presented by a civic activist group from Yugra, supported by a grant from Gazpromneft-Khantos. In addition to this, company volunteers, together with children registered at the Vega Social Support Centre for Families and Children, will perform short theatrical sketches.
As is traditional, the official closing ceremony on 5 March will include the award of a special Gazprom Neft prize for “For Supporting Cultural Traditions”.
A series of pre-stamped commemorative envelopes, bearing the official festival logo, will be issued in 2018, to be used in postal distribution for the first time. The launch of these envelopes, highlighting the “Spirit of Fire” festival, will be accompanied by a special postmark for Khanty-Mansiysk.
Alexander Dybal, Member of the Management Board and Deputy CEO, Gazprom Neft, commented: “During the course of the decade in which Gazprom Neft has been General Partner to the ‘Spirit of Fire’ festival not only has the scale of our business grown, but the company’s approach to engaging with those areas in which it operates has also changed. Instead of traditional sponsorship we have adopted a philosophy of social investment, the core objective of which is engendering a creative and innovative environment. The ‘Spirit of Fire’ festival has, today, become the most important cultural event in the life of one of the most important regions for Gazprom Neft, and we are determined to continue our collaboration with this excellent festival, going forward.”
The “Spirit of Fire” international cinematography festival for first time filmmakers has been held in Khanty-Mansiysk every year since 2003. People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Sergei Solovyov, a script writer, producer and teacher, is president of the festival. Gazprom Neft has been the General Partner to the cinematography forum since 2007, as part of its “Home Towns” corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, instituting a special prize “For Supporting Cultural Traditions” in 2013.
The “Home Towns” project brings together all corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects and initiatives implemented by Gazprom Neft throughout Russia’s regions. The programme is directed at supporting the social and economic potential of the regions, as well as at improving quality of life, and includes initiatives in neighbourhood enhancement, establishing infrastructure to support children’s and public sports facilities, as well as initiatives in education, health, and in supporting the cultural potential of the indigenous minorities of Northern Russia.
