Gazprom Neft and RosdorNII sign agreement on jointly developing scientific and technical potential in road construction
Gazpromneft Bitumen Materials, operator of Gazprom Neft’s bitumens business, and Autonomous federal agency RosdorNII (the Russian Highways Scientific Research Institute) have entered into a cooperation agreement, signed by Gazprom Neft Bitumen Materials CEO Dmitry Orlov and RosdorNII General Director Alexei Varyatchenko, directed at promoting the production and use of innovative materials in road construction.
The document envisages Gazpromneft Bitumens and RosdorNII’s specialists bringing their skills to bear in R&D and pilot activities, patent research and laboratory testing. In addition to which, the parties will be involved in developing progressive systems for monitoring the operating status of road sections on which bitumen binders might be used, developing new standard solutions, and making recommendations on using high-tech bitumen products. A key area of joint activity will be further improving the regulatory and methodological groundwork in developing, producing and utilising bitumen materials, in line with the roadbuilding industry’s immediate needs.
The effectiveness of this joint work will be ensured by the competencies and developments of Gazprom Neft’s specialist Bitumen Materials Science and Technology Centre (STC), the largest in Russia, established within the company’s own production plant in Ryazan, where the actual operating conditions of federal and regional highways are simulated on the STC’s unique high-tech equipment, taking into account high traffic loads, the impact on road coverings, and the specific climatic conditions of certain regions of Russia. Optimum asphalt mixes will then be developed, based on testing outcomes.
Dmitry Orlov, CEO, Gazpromneft Bitumen Materials, commented: «RosdorNII today acts as a federal centre in promoting cutting-edge products for highways construction. Gazprom Neft is a recognised market leader in Russia in developing and producing high-tech bitumens. Obviously, collaboration between science and business under this agreement will deliver a considerable synergistic effect in addressing the most important task in improving the safety and durability of Russia’s roads.»
