A fire at the Omsk oil refinery was extinguished, there is no environmental threat

Omsk. September 20, 2006. A fire, started early in the morning on September 20 gas fractionation unit GFU-2 of the Omsk oil refinery, is fully localized. At the moment the Omsk oil refinery works in a normal way, there is no threat to environment pollution.

Starting from September, 18 the gas fractionation unit GFU-2 has being prepared for a total overhaul. On September 20 at 3:56 am, local time a gas explosion took place at the alcalinous block during a planned work of the unit’s decommissionning from the operating procedure. Causes of the accident are unknown.

At 6:02 am the fire at the unit was localized, and at 9:02 – extinguished.

During the fire three refinery employees were injured. One of them is in a bad condition in the resuscitation department of the Omsk burns treatment centre.

At the moment there has been created a commission from representatives of the company’s different divisions in order to find out causes of the accident and estimate the actual damage.
