The first of the nine rounds of the new Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA, English: International Automobile Federation) World Endurance Championships (WEC) will take place at Britain’s Silverstone track on 17 April 2016. For Russia’s G-Drive racing team, taking part with the support of Gazprom Neft’s G-Drive fuel brand, this will be the fourth season in a row.
Last year’s world champions, the G-Drive Racing team is all set for the start. The team behind the No 26 racing car competes in the world championships in the LPM2 category. The first of the six races in the European series will also take place at Silverstone, one day earlier, on 16 April 2016.
Competing on the British track has traditionally proved lucky for Russia, with the black-and orange G-Drive team last year opening the championship with a blazing double; 2014 was also a success, with the number 26 team taking first place.
The FIA WEC 2016 season runs until the end of November, with the remaining races taking place in Belgium, France, Germany, Mexico, the United States, Japan, China and Bahrain.
Roman Rusinov, driver for the G-Drive Racing team at the FIA WEC, commented: “I’m very happy with our team stats at Silverstone. Two victories in a row. I’d like to add to that list with the new season. We’re completely ready — both the cars and the drivers. I can’t wait to qualify — and, of course, I can’t wait for the race.”
Alexander Krylov, Head of the Gazprom Neft Regional Sales Directorate and manager of the G-Drive Racing project, added: “It’s lucky that our two first races — the FIA WEC and ELMS — are taking place in England, literally one after the other at the legendary Silverstone track. The competition calendar has no cross-scheduling this season, so both G-Drive teams can compete together at the
