Gazprom Neft commences production testing at the Ignyalinskoye oil and gas-condensate field, Irkutsk Oblast

Gazpromneft-Angara, a subsidiary of Gazprom Neft, has begun production testing at the Ignyalinsky oil and gas condensate field in the Irkutsk Oblast: an initial commercial oil flow having been obtained in early 2016. Thanks to work undertaken on the restoration of the bottomhole formation zone, the well is flowing and producing more than 50 tonnes of oil per day. The first horizontal production well is currently being drilled at the Ignyalinskoye field, the horizontal section of which runs to a length of 1,000 metres.

The Ignyalinsky oil and gas condensate field is located in the license block of the same name in the Katangsky district of the Irkutsk Oblast. The license block is 2,153 square kilometres in size. The field’s recoverable C1 and C2 reserves as at 1 January 2016 were estimated at 65.9 million tonnes of oil and 38.9 billion cubic metres of gas. This subsoil concession is marked by complex geology: the underlying geomorphology is marked by areas that include trap magmatisms and sill dyke intrusions, and blocks are bounded by deep-seated faults. Since its discovery Gazpromneft Angara has drilled five exploratory wells and conducted 3D seismic operations and electrical exploration covering some 1,200 square kilometres.

«The Ignyalinskoye field forms a major part of the Chonsky project, which brings together promising Gazprom Neft assets in Eastern Siberia. The continuous development of this project is a major part of our company’s work in achieving our strategic objectives for 2020 and 2025. We will, this year, continue drilling at the Ignyalinsky field, allowing us to obtain new geological information on productive strata».

Notes for editors

Gazpromneft-Angara LLC holds licences for the development of three subsoil blocks in Eastern Siberia: the Ignyalinsky and Vakunaisky blocks in the Irkutsk Oblast, and the Timpuchikansky block in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia). These blocks are all located some distance from existing infrastructure, and the sourcing of technical resources, as well as the transportation of specialist personnel, is only possible via winter (ice) roads and air transport. The isolation and complex geological conditions of the Eastern—Siberian Platform notwithstanding, Gazpromneft-Angara is meeting all licensing conditions incumbent upon it and is successfully working towards increasing hydrocarbon stocks: this being the most important performance indicator of the success of previous geological prospecting works.
