Gazprom Neft-sponsored federal Congress on Integrated Petroleum Engineering takes place in St Petersburg

Russia’s first ever federal congress, “Integrated Petroleum Engineering: Technology, Solutions, People” has been held in St Petersburg, organised by the North—West branch of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) with the support of Gazprom Neft.

Integrated petroleum engineering is a new approach to addressing various problems facing the oil industry, allowing competencies across all specialisms in petroleum engineering to be synthesised, and facilitating software development involving the application of cutting-edge computer technologies and their synchronisation with project management processes and methodologies in infrastructure and capital construction.

Specialists from Gazprom Neft and other leading companies in the oil and gas sector shared global insights and predictions on the development of integrated petroleum engineering in Russia and worldwide, as well as outlining the most prominent projects in this area. Particular attention was paid to practical examples and the outcomes of successful projects, as well as tools for integrated planning and project management.

For the first time in the history of Russia’s oil industry students in relevant specialisms at higher educational establishments partnered by Gazprom Neft — the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas, St Petersburg Mining University, Tyumen State University, and others — took part alongside industry professionals, presenting on issues related to the application of innovative technologies in oil production, as well as taking part in panel discussions.

Alexey Vashkevich, head of the North—West branch of the SPE and Head of Geological Exploration and Resource Base Development, Gazprom Neft, commented: “Over the four years in which the St Petersburg branch of the SPE has been in operation we have been trying to establish a unique discussion forum for professional communication. Organising a federal congress on integrated petroleum engineering marks a new stage in the evolution of the SPE, and an important element in its global presence. We plan to hold similar events every year, as a meeting place for professionals keen to further consolidate their knowledge of technology, share experience, and identify new areas for development.”
