Gazprom Neft has become a sponsor of the International Deaflympics, held in the Russian Federation for the first time, supporting international sporting competitions for people with impaired hearing in Khanty-Mansiysk, one of the key regions in which the company operates.
Support from Gazprom Neft (provided as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme) has allowed participating sportsmen and women to compete in events organised to the highest international standards.
Russia topped the Deaflympics medals table, winning 30 medals — 12 gold, six silver, and 12 bronze. Czechoslovakia was in second place, with six gold and one silver, while third place was taken by the United States, with three gold, two silver and two bronze medals.
The Deaflympics have been held throughout various countries worldwide for more than 60 years, although this is the first time they have been held in Russia.
Teams from 27 countries took part in the events, which were divided into five categories — cross-country skiing, snowboarding, curling, hockey, and downhill skiing.
