Gazprom Neft supports internatonal forum for the development of the creative industries

Press-release Partnership

Gazprom Neft has partnered the Calvert Forum Siberia international creative industries forum, held in Tyumen on 10 — 11 November, 2017. The Calvert Forum Siberia, organised with the support of the Gazprom Neft “Home Towns” corporate social responsibility (CSR) project, has become a platform for discussing the outlook for the creative industries and the entrepreneurial environment in Siberia’s cities, including those cities in which Gazprom Neft has a presence.

Two hundred and fifty Russian and international specialists were brought together at this year’s event, including architects, urban environment specialists, and successful founders of creative and innovative projects, together with local government representatives and representatives from educational and cultural institutions.

Panel discussions and educational sessions saw participants presenting successful case studies on entrepreneurship and sustainable urban development, as well as discussing the outlook for the creative industries in the cities of Siberia — a region of strategic importance, as well enormous human potential.

The Forum has become the first communication platform in Siberia highlighting the problems of creative development in what is a gigantic region, occupying a significant part of Russian territory.

A key element of the Forum was the announcement of the “Makers of Russia” project — a major programme supporting youth entrepreneurship, implementation of which is scheduled for 2018. The project was presented by Alexei Kudrin, Chairman of the Board at the Centre for Strategic Research, and Gazprom Neft CEO Alexander Dyukov. The core objective of this initiative is to give young entrepreneurs access to Russian and international best practice in strategic management, and the marketing and promotion of events, goods and services originated by young entrepreneurs, in both Russian and international markets.

Plans under the “Makers of Russia” programme also include conducting research in the social sphere throughout Russia’s regions, the creation of a single and inclusive database and interactive project map, the organisation of interim forums for young Russian entrepreneurs throughout various cities in the country, as well as an annual inclusive forum in Moscow.

«On the point of the fourth industrial revolution, creative ideas and innovative solutions are becoming an ever more important component in the development not just of the regions, but of Russia, as a whole. Gazprom Neft is an active participant in the process of creating new business niches, and supports the economy’s creative sector. Collaboration with the Calvert Forum Siberia allows us to engage in effective dialogue with a youth audience, and to motivate that audience in implementing projects directed at transforming the regions. Our experience in supporting creative industries demonstrates that it is precisely forum participants such as these — and their ideas — that are such an important factor in positive changes in our country».
Alexander Dyukov
Alexander Dyukov Chairman of the GPN Management Board
«Every year more and more young specialists are engaging with the new economy, in which creativity and innovation are coming to the fore. The challenge for figures in government, business and culture is to bring all forces to bear in this process. But building a developed innovation and creative sector is not possible without taking account of cutting-edge international experience. And sharing best practice is what the Calvert Forum is all about. I have no doubt that the combination of professional research and practical steps in the creative industries will give further impulse to Russia’s economic development».
Alexei Kudrin Chairman of the Board at the Centre for Strategic Research

Notes for editors

The Gazprom Neft “Home Towns” project is a comprehensive corporate social responsibility programme targeted at improving quality of life in those cities in which the company has a presence. Designed to improve local people’s access to developed urban facilities, education and culture, the “Home Towns” CSR project is directly integrated into the company’s development strategy, an indispensable element of which is the full development of those territories in which the company operates.

The Calvert Forum is an international initiative focused on the role of the creative industries, studying examples of creative best practice from around the world, fostering engagement between international experts, and implementing strategies for creative development, throughout Russia’s regions. The Сalvert Forum was launched in St Petersburg in 2013 by the Calvert 22 Foundation and the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences of St Petersburg State University, supported by the State Hermitage Museum and the Leontief Centre. Calvert Forum conferences were held in the cities of Voronezh and Kazan in 2014 and 2015, before being held in Tyumen in 2017.

A pilot for the “Makers of Russia” project was the “Makers of Siberia” initiative — an online platform bringing together Siberia’s most interesting and notable projects from the most diverse arenas, from design and fashion to social initiatives. The “Makers of Siberia” project is directed at extending the role played by creative goods and services in Russian exports, as well as promoting Russia as a country producing promising and competitive products.

In contrast to the “Makers of Siberia” project, the “Makers of Russia” programme will be directed not just at popularising makers’ goods and brands, but also at creating an educational environment for young entrepreneurs, and forming a business community in the creative industries.

The “Makers of Russia” project is being implemented by the “Creative Practices” Creative Industries Support Foundation, with the support of the Gazprom Neft PJSC “Home Towns” corporate social responsibility programme and with the involvement of the Calvert 22 Foundation.
