Gazprom Neft to supply St Petersburg with innovative bitumen products

Press-release Partnership

Gazprom Neft has concluded an agreement with the Government of St Petersburg on cooperating in the supply of bitumen materials, signed, during this year’s St Petersburg International Economic Forum, by Gazprom Neft CEO Alexander Dyukov and Governor of St Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko.

The agreement envisages Gazprom Neft supplying an extensive range of modern bitumen materials, to be used in highways development and improving the street and road network throughout St Petersburg. Gazprom Neft’s bitumen products are already being used in building and repairing the most important highways infrastructure in St Petersburg, including the Western High-Speed Diameter and Nevsky Prospekt. Gazpromneft-Bitumen Materials, operator of Gazprom Neft’s bitumens business, supplied over 87,000 tonnes of bitumen products to road-building organisations in St Petersburg, with shipments being made from the company’s facilities in Moscow, Yaroslavl, Ryazan and Vyazma.

Pursuant to this agreement, in addition to basic road bitumens the company will increase supplies of innovative polymer-bitumen binders and high-tech bitumen products (bridging tapes, sealant compounds and mastics, emulsions, and protective and restorative compounds), the combined application of which substantially increases the service life of road surfaces.

Implementing this agreement will involve Gazprom Neft developing specific formulations for new bitumen binders and asphalt mixes, in line with the specific climatic features of the North—West Region, and traffic loads throughout the transport network. To which end, the unique and high-technology equipment available at the company’s specialist research centre in Ryazan will be used to model the actual usage conditions to which highways and roads are subjected, in the light of high traffic loads and corresponding impacts on road coverings.

Gazprom Neft CEO Alexander Dyukov commented: “Improving road quality and longevity, and improving the country’s transport network, are among the tasks the government has set as overriding priorities for the country’s economic development. Gazprom Neft’s high-technology projects, directed at developing an innovation cluster within Russia’s bitumen market, are providing a solution to these problems. The company is actively involved in major projects to develop the transport infrastructure of St Petersburg. I am confident that developing our partnership with the Government of St Petersburg under the framework of this new agreement will make the lives of St Petersburg’s residents still more comfortable and convenient.”

St Petersburg Governor Georgy Poltavchenko added: “The company is involved in major operations in developing cutting-edge bitumen components, using which will significantly extend the useful life of road surfaces. These materials are already being used in the construction and repair of major transport infrastructure facilities in the city, specifically in the reconstruction of Nevsky Prospect and in building the Western High-Speed Diameter ring-road.”
