Sales of high-tech premium binders at Gazpromneft-Bitumen Materials (operator of the Gazprom Neft bitumens business) were up 32% in 2020, reaching more than 330,000 tonnes. Total sales of bitumen products and bitumen derivatives were up 10%, reaching 2.9 million tonnes — these high sales figures being the result of higher production of bitumen materials across company assets, together with the company’s involvement in major Russian roadbuilding projects.
Gazprom Neft’s bitumens export network was expanded throughout 2020 to now cover 65 countries worldwide — the integration of seagoing bitumen tankers into the company’s logistics chain allowing it to enter new markets in Scandinavia, the Baltic and Western Europe. Gazprom Neft’s proprietary patented single-tonne packaging technology — Clovertainers® — also allowed it to deliver around 30,000 tonnes of PBBs for use in building the single biggest infrastructure facility in Latin America — the Bi-Oceanic Corridor (a road project connecting Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile).
Entering the domestic retail construction-materials market also proved a major event for Gazprom Neft’s bitumens business, with Brit-branded bitumen-derivative mastics and primers, used in low-rise construction, being made available for sale through one of Europe’s largest DIY retailers, Leroy Merlin, from 2020. Gazpromneft-Bitumen Materials also began producing Izhora-branded high-tech mastics and sealants, used in transport servicing and civil infrastructure, in 2020.
“2020 was a record year for Gazprom Neft’s bitumens business, with the production and sale of bitumen binders approaching three million tonnes. The high-tech bitumens range now stands at more than 100 branded products, currently in use on all major infrastructure projects in Russia. Added to which, we were the first in the country to achieve cumulative production of more than one million tonnes of modified bitumens. We will be continuing our development across all key areas throughout 2021, while continue to address out most important objective — further improving the quality and reliability of Russia’s roads.”Dmitry Orlov Director General, Gazpromneft-Bitumen Materials
