The First Interregional Gazprom Neft Cup Ice Hockey Children’s Competition Took Place in Omsk

The first interregional Gazprom Neft Cup Ice Hockey Children’s Competition took place in Omsk from November 28 to 30.

Six teams from Omsk, Tyumen, Salekhard, Noyabrsk, Hanty-Mansiysk, and Tomsk took part in the competition organized by Gazprom Neft Company within the frames of “Gazprom to Children” Program with support from the authorities of Omsk area.

The opening of the competition was held in a new Arena Omsk Sports Center. Olympic champions Irina Rodnina, Sergey Makarov, Alexander Kozhevnikov, Viktor Kuzkin, Alexei Urmanov, and famous figure skaters Yelena Leonova and Andrei Khvalko, Margarita Drobyazko and Povilas Vanagas were present at the opening.

Opening ceremony included a match between USSR Hockey Legends team and Avangard Hockey Club team of veterans. Masters of sport, multiple time world champions, Olympic winners and prize-winners such as Alexander Yakushev, Sergey Gimayev, Vladimir Lutchenko, Vladimr Golikov, Yuriy Lyapkin, Viktor Shalimov, Yuriy Shatalov and others walked onto the ice.

Gazprom Neft Company was represented by Alexander Dybal, its Vice-president, who observed that the company was a co-founder of Avangard Omsk Hockey Club. "Gazprom Neft Company will continue to support the city in promoting ice hockey. The Company Cup Children’s Competition will become a traditional one and will be held here, in Arena Omsk Sports Center, annually. Support of children’s sport, in particularly by holding competitions like this one, is an essential part of the Company’s policy”.

Irina Rodnina, a three time world champion in figure skating, said that it was not the first year that Gazprom Neft Company was engaged in promoting sports in our country. “We can say that Gazprom Neft and its subsidiaries are real champions in sports promotion”.

The victory in that three-day competition was gained by Gazovik, a Tyumen team, Yamal-96 team took the second place and Avangard, a team from Omsk took the third place.
